The Other Woman Each afternoon for an hour Gladys watched the soap opera on T.V. She knew the characters on the screen more intimately than she had ever known any living human being, and their lives became an integral part of her life. There was one woman in particular with whom Gladys identified. This woman reminded her so much of herself that she became confused about whose life was whose. When the woman was warm and loving to her husband, so was Gladys. When the woman was feeling hostile towards her husband, so was Gladys. When the woman found a part-time job in a hospital, so did Gladys (in the morning, of course). When the woman was unfaithful to her husband, so was Gladys, When the woman became sick, so did Gladys. Then one day the woman died. |
